Wentzel Welser

  General Notes:

Annie's parents and siblings on the 1850 NJ census, Atlantic County, Mullica Twp. Father's name listed as Wentzel Beldzer (Welser), glass cutter, born NY about 1813. Wife Mary Ann, born about 1808 in Germany. Kids listed are Margrett, George, Helen, and Christopher. In the same household is the family of Joseph Hursh (born about 1824 NJ, listed with wife, one child, possibly a brother John, and a Charles Smith who does not appear to be related).

The 1840 NJ census gives Wentzel Welser living in Cape May County, Maurice River. Ages match so assume this is him. 1880 NJ census, Camden County, Winslow, gives a George Welser, Glass blower, born about 1844, with wife and many of children. Only comment on that is he lists both parents born Germany.
Possible that Wentzel was born on-ship as his parents were immigrating and his birth was recorded in NY, hence he believed himself born NY. Possibly
George was wrong, possibly someone else gave the enumerator the info and didn't know any better if Wentzel spoke German. Did not find the Welser
parents on the 1880 census, but with the constant change of name I could have missed them.

Wentzel married Mary Anne Getsinger. (Mary Anne Getsinger was born on 18 Dec 1808 in Germany.)
