General Notes:
1880 NJ Census, Ocean Co., Lacey Lydia Chamberl(a)in living with son David and wife Elida, daughter Gussie Note: Lydia is listed as a widow, therefore Isaac died between 1870-1880
1870 NJ census, Essex Co., Newark Isaac Chamberlain with wife Lydia William Younmans and wife Catherine in household
1860 NJ census, Essex Co., Newark Isaac Chamberlin with children Sarah and George only
1850 NJ census, Essex Co., Newark Isaac Chamberlain age 37 occupation Victual (green grocer) with wife Lydia age 35 and the children. Emma age 12 Sarah age 9 John age 7 Aaron age 6 Phebe age 4 Catherine age 2 others living at 382 __ were: Ann Nozes age 37 Amelia Anthony age 16 John Anthony age 13 Mary Norris age 10 Martha Norris age 10 Georgiana Norris age 8
1840 NJ census, Essex Co., Newark The only Chamberl(a)in here is Samuel Note: two males aged 20-30, two females aged 20-30 and 1 female under age 5 in household. This would indicate two married men with their wives, one having a daughter. No indication that this is the family of Isaac Chamberlain, but it is noted as being the ONLY Chamberlain family in the entire county of Essex and the ages look to be correct. There is a Samuel Chamberlain and family in the 1850 census living in Newark, assume this is him.
Isaac lived in Newark throughout all the censuses I found him in, so it seemed logical that he was there in 1840 as well. There is only ONE Chamberlain family living in all of Essex County in 1840 and that is the family with Samuel listed as head-of-household. If you take a look at the ticks on that census page you'll see that the household contains 2 males aged 20-30, 2 females aged 20-30 and 1 female under age 5. That COULD appear to be 2 families of husband and wife with one of them having a young daughter. If you look at the 1850 census of Isaac, you'll see that his oldest daughter was born about 1838, hence it is possible she is that daughter listed in the 1840 census. HOWEVER, I have also found a Samuel Chamberlain living in Newark on the 1850 census and HE is shown with one daughter born 1839, so with that in mind it is possible that Isaac is not part of Samuel's household in 1840. There is also a single female named Hannah Chamberlain born about 1805 showing up in the 1850 census in Newark, so that could be the other female living with Samuel (his wife and sister perhaps). There are several Samuel Chamberlains living in the state of New Jersey in 1840, though, so don't get stuck on this particular one living in Newark. It just seemed LIKELY.
1830 census. There are two Chamberlains listed for Newark: Jabez Chamberlain and Reuben Chamberlain. They are not living very close to each other, something like 100 pages away (that's probably akin to opposite ends of town). Jabez does not have any male children living with him older than 5 years of age, so Isaac does not fit this family. Reuben has 7 males between the ages of 20-30 living with him. He is listed as being 30-40 years old. There are more males living with Reuben than just any that he could have spawned. Possibly he is listed with his own family (there are women listed with him as well) and his siblings.
Isaac married Lydia. (Lydia was born on 18 Apr 1814.)
